Launched in July 2020 during the tumultuous period of lockdown and restrictions, each dress was thoughtfully designed to represent free-flowing freedom with its timeless, comfort-oriented silhouette, and mood-lifting colors.  The kind of dress that transforms you into that zen place the moment you put it on. 

Hi, I'm Angelina, Founder of Mahisi.  What started as an afternoon of tie-dying with my niece during quarantine sparked something unexpected - a complete reimagining of the traditional housedress.

Growing up in Indonesia, I was familiar with the ‘daster’ - a comfortable but plain housedress that women wear at home. During lockdown, while practically living in my own daster, I found myself wondering: Why does comfortable have to mean basic? Why can’t we have both comfort AND style?

That question led to Mahisi. I wanted to create something that honored the comfort of the traditional daster but elevated it into something beautiful - a dress you could confidently wear both at home and out in the world.

Today, each Mahisi dress is a labor of love. I personally create the first samples of new tie-dye patterns and colors for each season, hand-dyeing small batches in my New York home. Some unique patterns are created by skilled tie-dye artisans I work with in Bali, Indonesia.

Every piece undergoes hours of special processing, resulting in one-of-a-kind variations in shading, patterns, and colors. No two dresses are exactly alike, and each is crafted from breathable, buttery-soft, natural fabrics.

Sometimes the best ideas come from questioning why things have always been done a certain way… and having the courage to create something new.
